  • Design: Classic Bakhtiari tribal brick pattern, with each rectangle featuring its own symbolic motif
  • Color Palette: Deep red, earthy green, warm cream, and navy accents for a luxurious yet grounded visual impact

  • One-of-a-Kind: Individually woven; this exact design and rhythm of symbols will not be repeated

Quality

This rug is woven with a plush Welayati Kurk wool pile on a strong cotton foundation, delivering both tactile luxury and structural integrity. At approximately 100 KPSI (knots per square inch), the pattern is crisp, the handle is supple, and the surface is built to endure daily use without losing its elegance. Kurk wool, known for its fine fibers and natural sheen, lends a soft touch underfoot and a subtle luster that enhances the rich reds, greens, creams, and navy tones. Properly cared for, this piece is not just décor—it is an heirloom.

Origin & Tradition

Hand-knotted in Maymana, Afghanistan, this rug reflects the artistic dialogue between Bakhtiari-inspired design and Afghan weaving excellence. The brick layout, each compartment containing a tribal emblem, echoes themes of protection, abundance, and harmony found across generations of nomadic and village weaving. By welcoming this rug into your home, you are investing in a living tradition: supporting skilled Afghan artisans and preserving a craft where every knot is placed by hand, with intention and pride.

My wife and I saw a carpet on the Afghanu website that would be perfect in our home, but it sold before we had decided to take a chance on buying an item from the other side of the planet. I wrote to ask if there was another like it for sale. That is when Baktash offered to custom design a rug to our specifications. He made a preliminary design that was identical to the rug we had found online, we suggested a color change in the medallion and then approved the revised design. The process was simple and Baktash engendered trust, so we asked for two runners to be made in the same general style and colors as the larger rug. All three works of art now beautify our home, and we could not be more pleased. Also, the cost of buying from Afghanu is about one-third of buying from a retail dealer; the shipping was secure and fast; and, it is nice to know that we helped provide work for artisans in rural Afghanistan.

I’ve purchased two exquisite rugs from Afghanu and will probably buy more in the future. The quality and craftsmanship are both phenomenal but the customer service sets them apart – personal, flexible and incredibly responsive.

I was looking for a rug that was special for a number of hours and I found the afghanu website. I contacted the seller who was very responsive and he showed me this beautiful handknotted rug. It arrived safely to Spain and it is more beautiful in person than in the pictures!
